1c9cf24421 Move builddefines.h switches into the build system
These are compile-time build configuration, so they belong in CMakeLists.txt
where the build files can see and vary them, not in a header buried in the
source tree. An Opus 4.8 session lost a long hunt looking for one of them.

builddefines.h is left as an empty husk for now so that every translation unit
keeps its line numbering: __LINE__ is baked into each Assert() and DebugMsg()
call site, so dropping the include would move thousands of immediates and hide
any real code change in the noise. With the include left in place all twelve
executables (JA2, JA2MAPEDITOR, JA2UB, JA2UBMAPEDITOR, symbolize_crash and
Ja2Export, in Debug and RelWithDebInfo) come out bit-identical, once the two
timestamps and the CodeView GUID that lld-link rewrites on every link are
normalized away.

The commented-out block that also lived here is gone: JA2UB, JA2UBMAPS,
JA2EDITOR, JA2BETAVERSION, JA2TESTVERSION, DEBUG_ATTACKBUSY and JA113DEMO are
all names CMakeLists.txt already owns, and having them appear as dead #defines
in a header is what sends readers down the wrong path.

JA2 v1.13



Preamble

Jagged Alliance 2 v1.13 is a modification for the Jagged Alliance 2 game.

Original development was done through SVN, this however ended abruptly in 2022, to keep the development going the step to Github has been made.

Note

All-in-one releases come for different languages and include JA2 v1.13, the Map Editor and JA2 Unfinished Business.

Visit the releases page to download the latest all-in-one.

Installation

  1. Install the original Jagged Alliance 2

  2. Download the latest all-in-one release and copy its content to JA2 game directory.

  3. Modify ini settings if you like.

  4. Play the game.

    Some additional information on can be found in folder "docs" inside download.

    If you face issues with higher resolutions, alt+tab not working, blackscreen, etc.,
    run the "cnc-ddraw-config.exe" in game-folder and adjust settings to your liking.
    (those issues can occur due to the combination of old game and modern OS/hardware, cnc-ddraw helps to avoid those)

Visual Studio setup

  1. Run Visual Studio 2019 or newer.
  2. Clone and open the location with the source code using one of these two options:
    • Click Clone a repository
      • Enter git@github.com:1dot13/source.git or https://github.com/1dot13/source.git in the Repository location field, select the path you want to clone the repository to and click Clone.
      • Double-click on Folder View in the Solution Explorer
    • Click Open a local folder
      • Use this option if you already cloned the repository yourself.
  3. Visual Studio detects CMakePresets.json and lists the msvc-* configurations. Executables are written to gamedir/.
  4. To build only some applications, or to debug against a different JA2 1.13 install, add/modify a CMakeUserPresets.json in the source root that inherits one of the shipped presets and sets the Applications and/or CMAKE_RUNTIME_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY cacheVariables. Language is chosen at runtime, not at configure time.
  5. Use Build -> Build All to build.
